Work Place Stress: New Person

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

What can you do if a co worker is always asking you
to do a report.

If that person is new to the job, they may be asking
for help since they don’t know how to do the report.
A good answer would be to ask if the person
understands how to do the report.

If they understand, then ask if there is a part that
is giving them trouble. Some times its hard to get the
full procedure correctly the first few times when some
thing is new or long.

Also don’t forget that working in another department
doesn’t mean using the same model of equipment
and the procedure may vary.

By taking a few minutes to help the person, you will
assure that they understand and can do the necessary
procedures by themselves. You will later have less
interruptions.

The good feeling you get from helping some one will
add a little sunshine to your day.

Work Place Stress

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Stress is part of our lives, but many just live with it
instead of doing something about it.

The work place has lots of stress. If you have a
belligerent boss and you need your job, it seems
necessary for you to live with stress.

Sometimes it isn’t even the boss, it may be a
co worker, that one person who just keeps
coming around asking you for help with a report
or to borrow something. Its a constant thing every
day, its this or that. Could the real problem be how
you react to this person? Maybe you need to change.
Here is a tip to manage stress caused by this type of
person.

If that person is a free loader and gets you to do
her work: next time ask what will you do for me
while I do you report? Keep using the same answer.
More than likely that person will not offer to do
anything. Be sure that, she will be back again
tomorrow or the next day to try again. But after
a while she will get the message and quit.

It may seem like a real hassle for you to refuse but
remember that extra work adds to your work load but
gives her the credit for it. And all you get is someone
else’s work and stress from not doing your own work.

Drug Companies Profits Lead to More Places.

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

As mentioned in the previous report, Dr Joseph Ross
of New York Mount Sinai School of Medicine has been
reporting that doctors are placing their names on drug
reports which they had no actual part in researching or
testing. The end of the drug money trail may
not stop there.

The Journal of the American Medical Association
(JAMA) has been known as a very prestigious
medical publication. Articles appearing in the journal
were suppose to pass rigorous tests before publication.
Now an editorial in JAMA is claiming that at least some
of authors (doctors whose names appear on the
reports) played little direct roles in the drug studies or
review of the drug reports.

So what is the problem? Dr Ross has written reports of
this and the issue has been discussed by others. It
seems that JAMA published one of the Vioxx studies
and they were actually instrumental in promoting the
drug. Could the drug company’s profits leave a money
trai lead to someone’s pockets at the JAMA?

Who is looking out for our health care? The FDA, the
doctors and now this prestigious medical journal all
seemed to be tainted by drug companies profits. Is
our health care being controlled by large companies
whose only concern is about their bottom line profits?
