How To Manage Office Stress Caused By Co Worker

Friday, June 6th, 2008

What can you do when a co worker refuses to do
his/her share of the work?

If it is a job that everyone is responsilbe for such
as cleaning up the table after your break, you could
try to approach the person. While he is on break, you
can politely request that he cleans up the table since
others have to use it after him.

Some people will not get the hint, so you may have
to speak to some one in charge. Be sure that the
accused person is one making the mess, then request
the person in charge to speak to him.

When making your request stated it as a fact, I
noticed that John doesn’t clean the break table
after he is finished with his break.

Then explain what problems this causes, when the
next person goes to eat, they have to clean up his
mess before they can eat, which leaves less time to
relax or eat.

Since some people will not change you may have to
live with the problem. In that case try to have your
break before John does or use another area for your
break.

If this problem is also causing stress to other, try to
use the group approach to the person in charge. Some
times more voices show that there is a problem and
something will be done to fix the situation.

Working in an office with various persons from
different background and customs can be
stressful. The key is trying to find a solution that
will decrease the stress for everyone involved.
