Search Engine Content

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Now you understand what a Search Engine does,
how do you entice them to visit your web site?

That easy! gave them what they want - good content.
You know what good content is and so do I, but how
does a search engine judge good content?

First your information has to be relevant to your web
site. If you are claiming a site on hair COLOR and all
your product are COLOR nail polish, the information is
not relevant. You need to change the name to nail
polish or get products that are related to hair color.
The domain name of your site should tell about the
information on the site to be relevant.

A domain name is the phrase or name given to your
web site, the same as a store name. Make the
name easy to remember and tell something about
the subject of your web site.

Another thing to remember is that the search engines
will lead people to your web site. Be sure that the
information is interesting to humans. Use the type of
information that would be of interest to your
audience. Don’t write about the newest teen hair color
if your audience is the young working girl.

Have you gone to a web site looking for something only
to find the information was totally different than what
you wanted? Don’t make your web site a total
disappointment to your visitors.

Search Engines, what are they?

They are software programs that gather information form web sites on the internet and place the information into a data base. When a request is made for information on a subject, the search engine goes to the data base and displays the information for you to view.

Another term used when talking about search engines are spiders. Some people explain the action of the search engines like a spider going over a site to gather the information. So when a site is visited by a search engine, you may hear your site was visit by a spider. So now you know you need to feed the spiders if you want to get your web site listed in a data base.

The largest known search engine is Google. Yahoo is also well known but not as large. There are other lesser known search engines. The internet is too large even for two search engines, thus each search engine has a network of engines covering the various parts of the internet. If one search engine doesn’t have what you are looking for, try another one.

So what do these engines search for when going over your web site?
