Work Place Stress

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Stress is part of our lives, but many just live with it
instead of doing something about it.

The work place has lots of stress. If you have a
belligerent boss and you need your job, it seems
necessary for you to live with stress.

Sometimes it isn’t even the boss, it may be a
co worker, that one person who just keeps
coming around asking you for help with a report
or to borrow something. Its a constant thing every
day, its this or that. Could the real problem be how
you react to this person? Maybe you need to change.
Here is a tip to manage stress caused by this type of
person.

If that person is a free loader and gets you to do
her work: next time ask what will you do for me
while I do you report? Keep using the same answer.
More than likely that person will not offer to do
anything. Be sure that, she will be back again
tomorrow or the next day to try again. But after
a while she will get the message and quit.

It may seem like a real hassle for you to refuse but
remember that extra work adds to your work load but
gives her the credit for it. And all you get is someone
else’s work and stress from not doing your own work.

New Views On Stress

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Stress is now being looked at from a different way.
People no longer accept the fact that stress can
only be dealt with by long term treatments by a
psychiatrist. This new thinking accounts for all
the self help books on the market.

Many people are now turning to science for
explanation of how the body reacts during stress.
Many studies are being done on the chemical
changes the body uses during the stress situation
and how to control or changes these chemical
reactions. Maybe in the future, we may all accept
that stress is just mind over matter which everyone
has in their power to control. I’m sure that the big
drug companies will do their best to keep it
all a secret.

The Office “YES” Person

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Are you always a “YES” person even though you don’t
want to be?

Everyone know they can get you to do their work or
fill in for them. This causes a lot of stress for you, but
you’re not sure how to handle the situation since you
are a shy or new person. If you were hired to be the
office gopher then there is no problem, but for others
who found it hard to say “no”, here are a few tips.

The first thing is to decide if the person asking you is
important. If it is a boss or someone who can influence
your job, then it may be better to say yes. You can
ask for help by using previously mentioned techniques.
For others try a simple test. When asked to do
something reply with sure I’ll do that for you, what
are you going to do for me in the meantime? or similar
words. A friend will offer to do something, you can
give a few suggestions if they ask what they can do.
Those who are just dumping their work on you will not
be willing to do something or find an excuse as to why
they can’t help. That is a sure sign that you should
answer with “no” when they ask. Don’t be surprise if
your friend doesn’t pass the test, they may just be
the using type friend.

problem at work.
